Thessaloniki Concert Hall to host ‘Music of Memory’ event

The Hellenic Institute for Holocaust Studies (MIET) and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall are co-organizing a concert titled ‘The Music of Memory’ on September 27, 2026. The event celebrates the Greek release of American historian and musicologist Jeremy Eichler’s book, ‘The Echo of Time: World War II, the Holocaust, and the Music of Memory,’ and marks the 60th anniversary of MIET.

The program includes a discussion between Eichler and musicologist Mariana Bozapalidou regarding the relationship between classical music, history, and collective memory. The musical portion of the evening will feature Richard Strauss’s ‘Metamorphosen,’ a lament for the destruction of European culture, and Arnold Schoenberg’s ‘Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte,’ a critique of tyranny.
