Thessaloniki Court Imposes Heavier Sentence for Fatal Crash in Imathia
A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years and 7 months in prison by the Thessaloniki Court of Appeals for a fatal traffic accident in Imathia. The incident occurred in October 2022 in Palaiochora, when the driver, operating under the influence of alcohol and at speeds exceeding 90 km/h, struck a mother and her two daughters.
The collision resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl and caused serious injuries to her 11-year-old sister and mother. Court records indicate the driver was performing dangerous maneuvers and lost control of the vehicle. An aggravating factor in the case was that the driver fled the scene, leaving the victims without assistance.
The case returned to court after the Supreme Court overturned a previous ruling that had granted a sentence reduction based on subsequent good behavior. Following the Supreme Court's decision that the conditions for such a reduction were not met, the new panel of judges imposed the increased sentence. During the proceedings, the defendant expressed regret, stating he wished he could turn back time.
