Thessaloniki court sentences seven for Dark Web bank fraud

A court in Thessaloniki has sentenced seven individuals to prison terms ranging from 10 months to 11 years for operating a criminal organization that defrauded bank account holders using the Dark Web.

Active between 2018 and 2019, the group caused financial damages exceeding 175,000 euros, affecting dozens of victims. The perpetrators bypassed bank security systems by purchasing stolen credentials, including usernames, passwords, and personal data, from the Dark Web.

Among those convicted are a 42-year-old former priest, who received an 11-year sentence, and his 26-year-old nephew, who was sentenced to 10 years. A police officer was also convicted and received a 7-year sentence for participation in the criminal organization. Three other defendants were acquitted. The investigation was conducted by the Cybercrime Division of Northern Greece.
