Thessaloniki Eastern Ring Road Closed for 48 Hours Amid Flyover Project
The eastern ring road of Thessaloniki, Greece, will be closed in both directions for 48 hours starting at 23:00 on Friday. The shutdown is required for construction of a major flyover that will span about 8 km, with a 4‑km elevated section built over the existing road. The project is slated for completion in spring 2027.
During the weekend, traffic will be diverted to alternative routes, and heavy trucks over 3.5 tonnes will face restrictions on Saturday and Sunday daytime hours. The same road segment was previously closed for two weeks in June, causing long vehicle queues and delays for commuters and tourists traveling to and from the Halkidiki peninsula. Drivers are advised to check real‑time updates via the official flyover platform or navigation apps.
