Thessaloniki police intercept Turkish mafia sniper plot

Greek police intercepted a contract killing plot in Thessaloniki involving the Turkish criminal organization Daltonlar. Acting on intelligence from Interpol and foreign services, specialized organized crime units arrested a 36-year-old man and a 30-year-old man in the Sykia area.

The suspects were apprehended while leaving a ground-floor warehouse carrying heavy weaponry. Seized items included a Yugoslavian-origin rifle equipped with a precision sniper scope, an Uzi submachine gun, wireless communication devices, and ammunition.

The 36-year-old suspect claimed he received the weapons on September 10 in the Evkarpia area on behalf of a 49-year-old Turkish national currently held in Korydallos Prison. He alleged he was acting under threats against his family. The Greek suspect claimed ignorance regarding the contents of the packages. Despite the severity of the plot, both suspects were released under restrictive conditions, including travel bans and mandatory police reporting.
