Western Macedonia energy transition: Mitsotakis highlights new investments

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis conducted a multi-day visit to Northern Greece, focusing on the economic transition of Western Macedonia from lignite to renewable energy. He emphasized that the shift away from lignite is irreversible due to carbon emission costs and highlighted the role of the Public Power Corporation (DEH) in investing in new energy and technology infrastructures, including a high-efficiency cogeneration unit in Ptolemaida.

Key economic developments include the Wonderplant investment in Ptolemaida, which involves approximately 130 million euros for hydroponic greenhouses and is expected to create at least 300 permanent jobs. The Prime Minister also addressed social and economic policies, promising that the minimum wage will exceed 950 euros before the next elections. He announced that the government's economic plan and 2030 roadmap will be presented at the Thessaloniki International Fair.

Infrastructure projects such as the E65 highway and the expansion of the Thessaloniki Metro were also discussed as vital for regional connectivity and development.
