Thessaloniki Metro resumes service as Kalamaria extension tests progress

The main line of the Thessaloniki Metro returned to regular commercial operation on Saturday, 20 June. Trains run daily from 05:15 a.m. to 11 p.m. following the pre‑suspension timetable. Riders whose personalized tickets were active during the three‑week shutdown (29 May – 19 June) can restore the unused balance at ticket offices in the New Railway Station, Venizelou, Agia Sofia, 25 March and New Switzerland stations between 07:00 a.m. and 07:00 p.m.

The temporary bus line M1, introduced to cover the metro gap, ended its service on 19 June, with the regular bus fleet maintaining a 97.5 % reliability rate. Concurrently, night‑time traffic restrictions are in place on the eastern Regional Road for Flyover construction, with closures from 23:00 to 05:00 on 20 June and subsequent nights.

Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas said the technical trials for the Kalamaria extension are proceeding well and that the five new stations are scheduled for delivery to passenger service in mid‑summer, pending final certifications.
