Greece traffic: Road closures in Thessaloniki and sobriety checks in Attica

Various traffic disruptions and safety measures are being implemented across Greece. In Thessaloniki, the Municipality is organizing a pilot pedestrianization of Nikis Avenue on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 15:30 to 20:30 as part of European Mobility Week. Additionally, major roadworks for the Flyover project will result in the closure of both lanes of the Thessaloniki Inner Ring Road between nodes K5 (Papageorgiou) and K6 (Meteora) from Monday night, September 21, 23:00, until Tuesday morning, 05:00.

Regarding road safety, the Hellenic Police have intensified enforcement efforts, conducting approximately 45,000 breathalyzer tests over the weekend period in the Attica region alone to reduce alcohol-related accidents and fatalities.
