Thessaloniki Mayor promotes city tourism in Bucharest
The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, is in Bucharest to promote the city to the Romanian market through the ‘Destination Thessaloniki’ initiative. Supported by the Greek Embassy in Bucharest, the campaign aims to highlight the city’s 2,300-year history, Byzantine heritage, UNESCO monuments, and culinary traditions.
The initiative presents Thessaloniki as a versatile destination for city breaks, cultural tourism, gastronomy, and business conferences. Data indicates that Romanian visitors accounted for 92,955 overnight stays in Thessaloniki in 2025, making Romania the sixth largest international market for the city.
As part of the visit, Mayor Angeloudis is scheduled to meet with the Mayor of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, to discuss tourism cooperation and institutional partnerships. The delegation is also engaging with local institutions, including the Patriarchate and the Romanian Parliament, to strengthen ties between the two cities.
