Thessaloniki Metro Agia Sophia station closed due to smoke
The Agia Sophia station of the Thessaloniki Metro has been temporarily closed following a smoke incident reported at 00:25 on September 18. Upon detection of the smoke, all fire safety systems were immediately activated, and safety protocols were implemented, including the evacuation of the station.
The Greek Fire Service and technical teams conducted an on-site inspection. The investigation determined that the smoke was caused by the failure of a compensation capacitor located in a technical room. The station will remain closed to allow for repair work, technical inspections, and safety checks to be completed.
