Thessaloniki police arrest 26-year-old for fan‑motivated assault

Greek police (ELAS) detained a 26‑year‑old man in Thessaloniki after he attacked a 46‑year‑old pedestrian on 28 July 2026. The assault was driven by the victim’s shirt, which displayed the colours of a local sports club, prompting verbal threats and physical violence. The suspect has been charged with breaching legislation on amateur and professional sports as well as related offences.

The police investigation was carried out by the White Tower Crime Investigation Unit, which identified the assailant through surveillance and eyewitness reports before executing the arrest during the early hours of 29 July 2026.
