Thessaloniki: Police arrests and protests over political gatherings

Police in Thessaloniki have conducted several operations resulting in various arrests. In the Pella region, a father and son, aged 55 and 18, were arrested for attempting to excavate ancient artifacts. In the city center, a 49-year-old woman was detained for possessing untaxed tobacco products, and a 55-year-old man was arrested for driving a truck under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, three individuals face charges related to thefts occurring in February.

Separately, tensions have risen in Thessaloniki regarding public demonstrations. Authorities have implemented restrictions on public gatherings in large parts of the city center to manage protests. These measures coincide with efforts to prevent anti-fascist groups from demonstrating against a planned gathering by Ilios Kasidiaris, a former member of the Golden Dawn organization, at a local hotel.
