Attica police dismantle organized burglary ring
The Hellenic Police have dismantled a highly organized criminal group responsible for at least 23 residential burglaries across the Attica region, including Athens, Kallithea, and Spata. The operation, conducted on September 17, 2026, resulted in the arrest of three foreign nationals, while five other members were identified. Of those identified, two are currently in custody and three are located abroad.
The group, which had been active since at least July 2025, utilized a sophisticated modus operandi. Members conducted nighttime surveillance of apartment buildings and targeted homes during holidays and vacation periods when residents were likely to be away. They used various methods to gain entry, including specialized knowledge of locks, keys, and accessing properties through balconies or stairwells. In some instances, they used adhesive markings on doors to verify if residents had returned.
The total estimated loot exceeds 179,000 euros, consisting of jewelry, watches, electronics, and cash. Investigations revealed that approximately 76,000 euros were transferred to foreign accounts via wire transfers to launder the proceeds. The group also faced charges related to drug law violations. Notably, one member reportedly worked as a domestic helper, providing intelligence on residents' schedules and absences.
