Thessaloniki police fine 22 pet owners for leash and hygiene violations

In July, the Thessaloniki Police Directorate carried out targeted inspections of pet owners in seven municipalities of the Thessaloniki region, including Kordelio‑Evosmos, Neapoli‑Sykies, Palaio Melas, Ampelokipoi‑Menemeni, Pylea‑Chortiati and Kalamaria. A total of 112 owners were checked for compliance with animal‑keeping regulations.

The inspections resulted in 22 administrative fines: five €300 penalties for missing leashes, five €300 penalties for failure to display identification tags, six €500 penalties for exceeding the allowed number of animals per household, four €1,000 penalties for lacking a current veterinary health record, one €100 penalty for not cleaning animal waste, and one €500 penalty for obstructing the inspection. The police aim to continue and expand such actions to improve public awareness, enforce the law and protect animal welfare.
