Greek police arrest multiple smugglers in Evros and Thessaloniki
Greek authorities have conducted several operations against human smuggling networks across the Evros, Rhodope, and Thessaloniki regions. In Evros and Rhodope, three smugglers were arrested for transporting 15 undocumented migrants in various vehicles, including a car and a van. Authorities seized vehicles, mobile phones, and cash during these operations.
In Thessaloniki, police engaged in high-speed chases on the Egnatia Odos to intercept smugglers. One incident involved a 20-year-old driver in a truck who performed dangerous maneuvers and ran red lights before colliding with a police vehicle in the Dendropotamos area. During this arrest, police discovered undocumented migrants, a suspected MDMA-like substance, and a folding stiletto.
Other arrests in the Thessaloniki area included a 53-year-old driving a van and a 30-year-old driving a passenger car. In the latter case, two migrants were found hidden in the vehicle's trunk. Investigations revealed the migrants had paid 500 dollars each to enter via the Greek-Turkish border. The 30-year-old driver was also found to be using stolen license plates and lacked a valid driver's license.
