Greek courts issue sentences in multiple domestic violence cases
Several domestic violence cases have resulted in court convictions across Greece.
In Volos, a 44-year-old man was sentenced to six months in prison with a three-year suspension for making domestic threats against his father. The incident followed an altercation involving the man's mother, allegedly triggered by his gambling addiction. The court ordered him to participate in a domestic violence program at the Volos Mental Health Center to avoid incarceration.
In Thessaloniki, a 48-year-old police officer received an eight-month prison sentence with a three-year suspension for domestic threats against a 51-year-old woman. The court also imposed a 100-meter restraining order. While the officer was convicted of the threat, separate legal proceedings are being conducted regarding allegations of sexual misconduct and illegal video recording.
In Larissa, a man was sentenced to two years in prison without the possibility of suspension after attacking his pregnant partner. The court rejected his denial of the assault, following a prosecutor's recommendation that the victim was acting out of fear.
