Thessaloniki Port expands Provalta 6, doubling capacity and creating thousands of jobs

The Provalta 6 berth at the Port of Thessaloniki has been enlarged, raising its operational depth from 12.6 m to 16.8 m and extending its length from 568 m to 1,081 m. These changes increase the terminal’s annual handling capacity from about 650,000 TEU to roughly 1.5 million TEU, positioning the port as a major logistics hub for northern Greece, the Balkans and southeastern Europe.

During construction the project generated an estimated added economic value of €530 million and directly created around 20,000 jobs. Over a ten‑year horizon of full operation, projections foresee a cumulative added value of about €1.4 billion and up to 52,000 direct and indirect jobs, while lowering transport costs and enhancing export competitiveness across the region.
