Thessaloniki receives 42 million euros for cultural projects
Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni announced that approximately 42 million euros in cultural projects have been funded in Thessaloniki through the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). These investments aim to restore monuments, enhance cultural infrastructure, and drive digital transformation within the city's cultural institutions.
Key completed or ongoing projects include the restoration of the Alcazar, works at the Bey Hamam, and the preservation of various Byzantine monuments. Additionally, the funding has supported the establishment of MOMus-Air, a permanent contemporary art museum at Macedonia Airport, and improved accessibility and sound recording capabilities at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
Speaking during a seminar at the MOMus Museum of Contemporary Art during the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, Mendoni emphasized that these projects connect monument protection with sustainable tourism and the local economy. She noted that since 2019, the Ministry has utilized 13 regional maps to identify specific local needs and ensure beneficial interventions for each region.
