Thessaloniki region launches aerial mosquito‑spraying campaign

The Central Macedonia Regional Health and Social Solidarity Authority will conduct aerial mosquito‑control operations over up to 120,000 stremmata of rice fields in the Thessaloniki and Imathia regional units on 10‑12 August. Helicopters will disperse ministry‑approved insecticide during three‑hour nightly sessions, beginning at sunset, with each flight lasting up to two hours.

The programme, authorised by the Greek Ministries of Health and Rural Development and Food, is limited to uninhabited zones at least two kilometres from settlements. Local agricultural cooperatives have been instructed to inform members and advise protective measures for people and livestock during the spraying period.
