Thessaloniki's 81st Primary School celebrates 115 years of history
The 81st Primary School in Thessaloniki held its third annual event, ‘A School in the Karagatsia’, to commemorate its 115-year history. Founded in 1911, the institution has been deeply intertwined with significant Greek historical milestones.
Originally named the Urban School of Pyrgos, the school was renamed the Urban School of Analipsi following the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1912. Its history includes being requisitioned by the Allies during World War I and serving as a refuge for refugee families following the Asia Minor Catastrophe.
The event was organized by the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the school's teaching staff, and the Parents and Guardians Association. Attendees participated in historical tours, a photography exhibition by Alexandros Avramidis, and cultural performances including a school choir and theatrical presentations. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Development Stavros Kalafatis and the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis.
