Thessaloniki's Toumpa archaeological site undergoes inspection

Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and Thessaloniki Mayor Stelios Angelidis conducted an inspection of the Toumpa archaeological site in Thessaloniki to review ongoing excavations. The site contains significant prehistoric remains spanning from the Bronze Age to the Byzantine period.

The excavations are being led by professors from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who are responsible for the research and maintenance of the findings. Minister Mendoni stated that the Ministry of Culture will ensure the effective protection of the remains and will highlight sections suitable for public display.

To facilitate the site's development, the Ministry of Culture plans to launch a tender in 2026 for studies regarding the protection, promotion, and redevelopment of the archaeological area. The goal is to integrate the site into the urban life of Thessaloniki and make it accessible to the local community.
