Thessaly Governor discusses flood and water management

Thessaly Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas has addressed the region's preparedness for extreme flooding and water management challenges. In a recent interview, Kouretas highlighted planned flood protection interventions for more than 15 locations within the urban area of Volos.

Key topics discussed include the implementation of large dams, irrigation strategies, and a contingency plan should the water transfer from the Acheloos River fail to proceed. Additionally, the Governor touched upon livestock health, specifically regarding goat welfare and potential vaccinations, as well as a new system for monitoring and forecasting air pollution.

Regarding summer safety, Kouretas noted that wildfire prevention and surveillance remain a primary focus. The Regional Civil Protection Center is currently working in coordination with the Fire Service to monitor risks. The Governor stated that this surveillance system is in its second year of operation and has been performing effectively thus far.
