Thessaly livestock breeders protest Ministry inaction

The Federation of Livestock Breeders and Livestock Associations of Thessaly has issued a statement expressing intense frustration with the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, citing inaction and delays in addressing a crisis in the livestock sector.

Key concerns include the spread of animal diseases, specifically goat and sheep plague and foot-and-mouth disease in Lesvos, which continue to threaten herds. The Federation claims that despite submitting numerous proposals to combat these diseases, the political leadership has failed to act.

Additionally, breeders are demanding a concrete timeline for the reconstruction of herds following significant losses of livestock and income. They also noted that a commitment made by the Prime Minister in February regarding support for animal feed for 2026 remains unfulfilled.
