Thessaly recognized as European Entrepreneurial Region

Kostas Agorastos, head of the Alliance for Citizens, highlighted the economic development of the Thessaly region, noting its recognition as the ‘European Entrepreneurial Region 2019’ for its strategies in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Despite facing significant challenges between 2011 and 2023—including the economic crisis, capital controls, the migration crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic—the region secured substantial resources to support the real economy. Through the ESPA Thessaly 2014–2020 programs, 1,222 investment plans were implemented, totaling 566.2 million euros in investments with 282.7 million euros in public funding.

Specific breakdowns of these investments include 422 proposals via the Development Law, 583 plans through the ‘Invest’ and ‘Reinvest’ programs, and 217 plans via the LEADER program. Additionally, Agorastos was appointed as a rapporteur for the European Committee of the Regions regarding InvestEU, a major European Union investment tool.
