Thessaly Region announces €4.8M flood prevention project in Pyli
The Thessaly Region has announced a €4.8 million flood prevention and infrastructure project in the Pyli Municipality of Trikala. The initiative focuses on the regulation of the Portaikos River, spanning from the Lithini bridge of Agios Vissarion to the New Bridge of Agios Vissarion.
Technical works will include cleaning the riverbed and constructing gabions and weirs in accordance with river delimitation studies. Once the flood protection measures are completed, the Pyli Municipality plans to carry out landscaping and redevelopment of the riverfront area to create a modern recreational space for residents and visitors.
Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas emphasized that the project is essential for protecting human life, infrastructure, and agricultural productivity against extreme climate events. The project is part of the Thessaly Region's integrated territorial development program.
