Thessaly Region challenges AGET Hercules environmental permit

The Region of Thessaly has filed an appeal with the Council of State against the new Environmental Terms Approval (AEPO) granted to AGET Hercules. Thessaly Governor Dimitris Kouretas, alongside legal representative Giorgos Balia, characterized the environmental study as incomplete, insufficient, and scientifically flawed.

The appeal is based on four primary objections: the lack of carbon dioxide emission assessments regarding European climate goals; the failure to specify the nature and quantities of hazardous pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10, sulfur and nitrogen oxides, dioxins, and furans; the absence of an assessment regarding the cumulative health impacts on local residents from combined industrial activities; and the lack of a scientific risk assessment for the use of Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) as an alternative fuel source.
