Thessaly Region Establishes New Environment and Agricultural Development Committee
On 27 July 2026 the Regional Council of Thessaly approved the creation of a new nine‑member Committee of Environment, Agricultural Sector and Development Planning, applying for the first time the provisions of article 130 of Law 5314/2026. The committee assumes responsibilities previously held by the Regional Council to manage environmental protection, agricultural development, natural‑resource management and regional planning more swiftly and effectively.
The committee is chaired by Deputy Regional Governor for Environment Fotis Lambrinidis, appointed by Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas. Its members include senior regional officials covering agriculture, social policy, digital governance, lifelong learning, vulnerable groups, tourism and infrastructure. In the same session the council also approved funding for the Central Port Authority of Volos and its sub‑departments for 2026, covering vehicle and vessel maintenance and the purchase of five encrypted VHF‑UHF transponders.
