Thessaly Region initiates consultation for new CAP 2028–2034

The Thessaly Region is launching a broad consultation process to shape its proposal for the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for 2028–2034. An information and consultation event is scheduled for August 26, 2026, at the JOIST Innovation Park in Larissa.

The initiative involves producers, livestock farmers, beekeepers, cooperatives, and various stakeholders within the agri-food system. Key topics for discussion include the potential creation of a distinct regional fund for Thessaly within the national CAP plan, the future of direct and coupled subsidies, cotton production, livestock farming, and water management.

The consultation is particularly critical for Thessaly due to pressures on water resources, the impact of extreme weather events and floods, rising production costs, and the urgent need for a more resilient and sustainable production model. Academic experts from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens will participate in the discussions.
