Thessaly Region launches bioeconomy startup program in Volos

The Thessaly Region has launched the ‘Sole MED Bioeconomy Start Up Creation Lab (SUCL)’ educational program at the University of Thessaly in Volos. The initiative is part of the European Sole MED project, funded by the Interreg Euro-MED program, and aims to foster youth entrepreneurship within the bioeconomy and circular economy sectors.

The program is designed for individuals aged 18 to 30 and consists of a 62-hour training cycle. This cycle is divided into three distinct phases: theoretical knowledge acquisition, business proposal design, and practical implementation. The curriculum concludes with specialized mentoring sessions and a final Demo Day for presenting business ideas.

Ioannis Anastasiou, Vice Regional Governor for Citizen Service, Digital Governance, European Programs, and Investments, stated that the value of European projects lies in creating tangible opportunities for citizens, particularly the younger generation. The initiative seeks to position Thessaly as a leader in the transition toward sustainable and circular economic models.
