Thessaly Regional Council debates Rakopotamos-Keramidi road failures
During a Thessaly Regional Council accountability session, Tasos Tsiaples, leader of the People's Rally (LASY) in Thessaly, raised concerns regarding the Rakopotamos-Keramidi road project. The 12-kilometer road, which carries a budget of 15 million euros, has faced significant structural issues.
Tsiaples reported that despite previous assurances that the project would be completed by July 2025, the road has experienced rock and soil collapses, asphalt tearing, and sections of the coastal road collapsing. These issues led to an urgent prosecutorial investigation and a two-month suspension of works. The opposition has questioned whether necessary technical reinforcement works, such as cement retaining walls, were included in the original studies and has demanded clarity on who will cover the costs of the required repairs.
