Thessaly Regional Councilor opposes judicial role in Tempi cleanup probe
Regional Councilor Nikos Raptis has voiced opposition to the Thessaly Regional Council attempting to act as a quasi-judicial body regarding the Tempi train accident cleanup. Raptis argues that the council lacks the jurisdiction to conduct interrogations or investigative proceedings, noting that the matter of responsibility for the cleanup is already being handled by the judiciary.
The controversy stems from a decision to allow relatives of the victims to question former Regional Governor Kostas Agorastos regarding his role in the cleanup process. Raptis has proposed instead that the region conduct an administrative investigation into the committee of officials responsible for the cleanup proposal, rather than holding ad hoc hearings within the council.
