The Thessaly Region is initiating a consultative process to shape the upcoming Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for 2028–2034. On August 26, 2026, an information and consultation event was held at the JOIST Innovation Park in Larissa, featuring prominent academics including Kostas Karaninines, Konstantinos Mattas, and Ioannis Doukas.

Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas emphasized that Thessaly must secure a distinct position within the new CAP framework. He noted that the current model faces vulnerabilities such as dependency on subsidies, irrigated crops, and privatized knowledge. The proposed transition aims to focus on climate resilience, water management through smart irrigation and telemetry, and regional development.

In addition to policy discussions, the Agricultural University of Athens will host the Agri Innovation Expo 2026 on September 24–25. This event aims to bridge the gap between academic research and the market, showcasing technologies in artificial intelligence, precision agriculture, and biotechnology to address modern agricultural and environmental challenges.
