Thessaly special education staff protest funding and resource shortages

Members of the Association of Special Assistant and Educational Personnel of Special Education (SEVEPEA) in Thessaly held a protest and march in Larissa following a nationwide educational strike. The group, joined by students, parents, and teachers, met with the Regional Directorate of Education to demand better resources for students.

Protesters criticized the Regional Director for refusing to listen to their demands. The association highlighted severe shortages in essential personnel, noting that some special kindergartens lack psychologists and social workers, while general schools only have these professionals available one day per week. Additionally, they reported that a single school nurse is often responsible for multiple schools, potentially delaying emergency responses.

Concerns were also raised regarding inadequate school infrastructure, with special education facilities reportedly operating in repurposed buildings or temporary modular classrooms.
