The Thessaly Region, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Forests of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, is organizing a scientific seminar titled ‘Health and Resilience of Forest Ecosystems of Thessaly: Desiccation, Pathogens, Climate Pressures and Management Challenges’. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 16, in Larissa.
The seminar aims to highlight modern threats to regional forest ecosystems, investigate the impacts of the climate crisis, and present measures for prevention, protection, and restoration. Key topics include the impact of bark-eating insects and spruce necrosis in Greek forests, forest phytosanitary issues in Thessaly and Central Greece, and the consequences of Storm Daniel.
Presentations will also cover atmospheric pollution's effects on flora and the role of forest ecosystems in civil protection and natural hazard mitigation. The event will feature experts from the Forest Research Institute of ELGO-DEMETER and various forestry services.
