Thiaroye-sur-Mer beach faces severe waste pollution

The beach in Thiaroye-sur-Mer has become an open-air landfill, with waste covering much of the shoreline and disfiguring the coast. The accumulation of trash, including plastic bottles, bags, and wood, has deterred crowds, leaving only fishermen, children, scavengers, and animals to frequent the area.

In the surrounding neighborhoods, residents face significant sanitation issues. Narrow alleys are often flooded with wastewater overflowing from septic tanks, forcing pedestrians to walk through sewage to reach the beach or their homes. The local environment is characterized by a mix of fish odors and sewage, with many older homes situated in poorly planned areas with limited access.
