Thibaut Courtois reaches agreement to extend Real Madrid contract until 2028

Real Madrid has reached an agreement in principle to extend the contract of Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois until June 30, 2028. The 34-year-old, who joined the club from Chelsea in 2018, is expected to remain the team's primary shot-stopper for at least one additional season beyond his current deal, which was set to expire in 2027.

The extension follows Real Madrid's established policy of offering annual renewals to veteran players over the age of 30. By securing Courtois through 2028, the club ensures continuity in goal as he approaches his 36th birthday, while also allowing the organization to continue developing younger talent in the academy for long-term succession.

Since his arrival, Courtois has become a central figure for the Spanish giants, contributing to multiple major titles, including three La Liga championships and two UEFA Champions League trophies. His role as the undisputed number one remains intact, with backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin expected to continue in a secondary role.
