Thibaut Courtois hints at possible Belgium retirement after World Cup
Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said he is considering ending his international career after the 2026 World Cup. The 34‑year‑old Real Madrid keeper explained that he must think about his body and wants to hand the baton to a new generation. Courtois, who has earned 109 caps, added that he may not continue with Belgium after the tournament and that “the time may be right to pass the torch”. Belgium will open the competition on 15 June in Seattle, playing against Egypt in Group F alongside Iran and New Zealand.
Courtois noted his past injuries and the importance of recovery periods, saying he wants to stay at a high level for as long as possible but must balance it with his physical condition.
