Thieves call police for help after being trapped in Gujarat jewelry shop

Two thieves surrendered to the police after becoming trapped inside a jewelry shop in Sanjan, Valsad district, Gujarat. The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Dinesh Sonkar and 27-year-old Vipin Pathak, reportedly entered B. R. Jewelry by cutting the lock of the shop's shutter during the early hours of Thursday.

Local residents were alerted to the theft by the noise of the cutting tools and a simultaneous power outage. As a crowd gathered, onlookers closed the shop's shutter from the outside, effectively trapping the suspects within the premises. Fearing they would be beaten by the growing crowd if they attempted to escape, the thieves used the emergency helpline number 112 to call the police and request assistance.

Officers from the Umargam police station arrived at the scene, opened the shutter, and took the suspects into custody, protecting them from the agitated crowd. The suspects, who are residents of Uttar Pradesh currently living in the Mumbai area, had allegedly planned the robbery before traveling to Sanjan.
