Thilamalé Bridge construction reaches 80 percent completion
The Thilamalé Bridge project in the Maldives has reached 80.32 percent completion. The Ministry of Infrastructure confirmed that the final segment linking Vilimalé and Gulhifalhu is expected to be installed before the end of October.
The USD 500 million infrastructure project aims to establish a permanent road connection between Malé, Vilimalé, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi. Following the completion of the Malé-Vilimalé section in August, construction is now focused on the 750-metre section between Vilimalé and Gulhifalhu.
To date, 98.53 percent of the 1,222 required precast concrete segments have been manufactured at a dedicated facility in Gulhifalhu. Additionally, 88 percent of the segments required for connecting the bridge’s supporting pillars are already in place.
