Thira Port Authority undergoes leadership change

A leadership change has taken place at the Thira Port Authority. Panagiotis Varelas, recently promoted to Rear Admiral, has reassumed the role of Port Captain of Thira, taking command from Rear Admiral Iakovos Drosos.

Varelas is returning to this position for the fourth time. He has a long-standing connection to the island, having served there since 2012 following a transfer from the Karpathos Port Authority.

The transition coincided with a blessing ceremony held at the Port Authority’s new facilities in the Vothona area of Thira. The ceremony was attended by local religious leaders, including the Metropolitan of Thira, Amorgos, and the Cyclades, as well as political figures such as Cyclades MP Markos Kafouros and the Mayor of Thira, Nikos Zorzos.
