Anila Baby charged with double murder in California

Anila Baby, a 32-year-old woman originally from Kerala, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in Santa Clara County, California. The charges follow two separate fatal incidents involving her close friends that occurred on August 28.

Investigators allege that Baby first attacked 39-year-old Ann Mary Mathew inside her San Jose residence, where Mathew was reportedly strangled and stabbed. Approximately 90 minutes later, Baby is accused of driving to a parking area at the Mill Creek Apartments in Milpitas, where she fatally struck 35-year-old Anjana Hari with a blue Toyota Highlander SUV. Witnesses noted that the vehicle accelerated toward Hari and subsequently struck three parked cars before being abandoned.

Police and prosecutors are treating the two incidents as connected despite them occurring in different jurisdictions. Baby is currently in custody and is scheduled to enter a plea on November 17. If convicted, she faces a potential sentence of 50 years to life.
