Thisted Mayor receives award and death threat

Niels Jørgen Pedersen, the Mayor of Thisted, was awarded the 2026 Mayor Prize by the Association of Architects (Arkitektforeningen) during the Culture Meeting on Mors. The award recognizes development projects such as Cold Hawaii Inland, SMK Thy, Naturlandsbyen Doverodde, and Nationalpark Thy for their role in promoting the Thy region.

Following the announcement of the award, Mayor Pedersen was targeted with a death threat in the comment section of the LimfjordUpdate Facebook page. Local officials and community members have condemned the incident, stating that while political disagreement is a fundamental part of democracy, threats of violence are unacceptable. The administrator of LimfjordUpdate removed the comment and has since tightened moderation rules. The Venstre party in Thy is currently considering whether to report the individual responsible to the police.
