Thisted Municipality files police report over threat to Mayor

The Thisted Municipal Council has decided to file a police report following a threat directed at Mayor Niels Jørgen Pedersen. The threat was posted as a comment on a Facebook thread regarding an award the mayor received from the Association of Architects.

Although Mayor Pedersen initially indicated he did not wish to report the incident, the municipality has taken action on his behalf. Municipal Director Carsten Otte submitted the report to send a clear signal that threats against elected officials and employees will not be tolerated.

During a council meeting, officials expressed concern that such harassment could discourage citizens from participating in democratic processes. Vice Mayor Torben Overgaard stated that while political disagreement is necessary, threats have no place in a democracy and the council aims to protect the integrity of public debate.
