Thiếu phụ Nam Xương returns to the stage

The classic literary tale “Thiếu phụ Nam Xương” by Nguyễn Dữ is being brought to the stage through the “Ngân mãi Chuông vàng” program. The story, a staple of medieval Vietnamese literature, follows the tragic life of Vũ Thị Thiết (Vũ Nương), a virtuous woman who faces injustice due to her husband's suspicion and her child's innocent words.

Various art forms have interpreted this tragedy. In 2024, the Vietnam Tuong Theatre presented a version directed by People's Artist Lê Tiến Thọ, which expanded the character's journey by having her disguise herself as a man to join the military. The story has also been featured in Cải lương (reformed opera) performances, such as at the 2021 National Cải lương Festival.
