Tholey emergency services face high call volumes due to drought

Emergency services in the municipality of Tholey have faced a demanding year due to extreme weather conditions. By the end of August, the volunteer fire departments across five districts had responded to 191 calls.

High temperatures and prolonged drought throughout July and August significantly increased the risk of forest and surface fires. Local crews provided support to neighboring areas, including Primstal, Ottweiler, and Hirzweiler, with some personnel remaining deployed for several days. Additionally, smoke and odors from fires in the High Fens required responses and standby periods at the municipal situation center.

In addition to the volunteer fire departments, other emergency organizations including THW Theley, DRK local chapters in Theley and Hasborn-Dautweiler, and the Malteser were involved in the operations. Mayor Andreas Maldener expressed gratitude for the extraordinary commitment of the responders and their families during this period of increased activity.
