Thomas Boni Yayi undergoes surgery in Berlin after medical evacuation
Former Beninese President Thomas Boni Yayi has undergone a successful seven-hour surgical procedure in Berlin, Germany, to treat a herniated disc. The surgery followed an emergency medical evacuation from Benin.
According to official statements from his family, Boni Yayi is currently in intensive care and has begun functional rehabilitation sessions. The medical team in Berlin reported that the operation was satisfactory and the former head of state has regained consciousness.
The medical evacuation was authorized by the government under President Romuald Wadagni, in accordance with the 2009 law regarding pensions and benefits for former presidents of Benin. The former president's family expressed gratitude to President Wadagni, former President Patrice Talon, and the medical staff in Germany for their assistance during the process.
