Thomas Christiansen applies for Ghana national team coaching role
Panama head coach Thomas Christiansen has applied for the vacant head coaching position of the Ghana national football team, known as the Black Stars. The Danish-Spanish tactician is among several local and international candidates seeking to succeed Carlos Queiroz, who departed following a difficult start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Christiansen possesses recent experience against Ghana, having led Panama in a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Black Stars during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His professional background includes managing clubs such as Leeds United in England, AEK Larnaca and APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus, and Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.
A joint five-member search committee, composed of representatives from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ghanaian government, is currently reviewing applications. Any potential appointment would require negotiations with the Panamanian Football Federation regarding his current commitments.
