Thomas Dambo unveils permanent troll sculpture in the Adirondacks
The Wild Center in Tupper Lake has unveiled Patrick Sapling, a massive new troll sculpture created by internationally recognized artist Thomas Dambo. This installation marks the first permanent troll by Dambo in New York State.
Constructed from recycled materials, the sculpture is located in a clearing near the Fen Trail and Raquette River. The artwork depicts a troll kneeling within a ring of stones while holding a sugar maple sapling skyward. Dambo, whose work is inspired by Nordic folklore, stated that the mission of the sculpture aligns with teaching the importance of nature and sustainability.
The installation follows a successful summer exhibition of six temporary trolls at the center. Unlike those previous pieces, Patrick Sapling is a permanent addition to the Adirondack landscape.
