Thomas Gottschalk ends TV career after cancer‑free recovery
German TV veteran Thomas Gottschalk, 76, announced that he is now cancer‑free following a diagnosis of the rare epitheloid angiosarcoma in late 2025. He underwent two multi‑hour surgeries, 33 radiation sessions and a three‑week rehabilitation program. Gottschalk also participates in an experimental vaccine trial at the University Clinic Greifswald, originally developed for children with the same tumour type, receiving injections every two weeks.
In an interview with Bunte, Gottschalk said no further TV shows, public appearances or engagements are planned, declaring a permanent withdrawal from the spotlight. He emphasized that the medium has changed and no longer fits him. His wife Karina, whom he credits as his primary support, will remain his focus as he moves away from public life.
