Thomas Markle Sr. investigated for child sex abuse allegations in Philippines

Thomas Markle Sr., the estranged father of Meghan Markle, is under investigation by Philippine authorities following allegations of possessing child sexual abuse material. The investigation follows a report from his son, Thomas Markle Jr., who reportedly discovered the materials in boxes at his father’s former residence in Cebu and turned them over to the Philippine National Police and the FBI.

Philippine Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla stated that forensic experts are currently examining a laptop seized from the property, with results expected within a week. Remulla noted that while family disputes must be considered, current signs point toward a serious investigation. The FBI has confirmed it is aware of the allegations and will support local authorities as appropriate.

Markle Sr. has denied all wrongdoing, characterizing the accusations as ‘sick lies.’ The case has also drawn attention in the United Kingdom, where London’s Metropolitan Police is reviewing how it handled a 2019 letter containing similar allegations. Meghan Markle has expressed that she is ‘deeply distressed’ by the investigation.
